Often when a large group of people are injured by the same defendant, the injuries vary from person to person. Differing damages do not prevent a class action.
In a liability issue, the courts will look at whether or not a wrong was committed, and that can be determined in that one case that is the same as all of them from a liability stand point. Then after liability is established, the case may be sent out to a Special Master or smaller cases for the specific damages, but the courts would like to have the liability issue all handled in one case.
